A local author and former OPP officer is shining a light about substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder among first responders in a new book.
Southampton resident Barry Ruhl is the author of “Booze and the Badge” about his experience dealing with alcoholism.
Ruhl recalls a point where he started to develop PTSD after a run in with a suspect.
Ruhl says the problem with using alcohol or other substances is that is becomes circular with no end in sight.
He says it is a good idea when people are cooped up in their homes to go out for a walk because it really does your body and mind good.
