The Mayor of Georgian Bluffs says the Wiarton-Keppel International Airport was becoming too much of a burden to the Township and its ratepayers.

Georgian Bluffs recently announced that the airport was declared surplus and are looking to unload it.

Dwight Burley says there has been a lot of interest in the airport but it was becoming no longer feasible to continue operating it.

There was an airline operator that offered flights to and from Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport on a trial basis but Burley says they were dealing with some issues and were not able to take to the next step.

A public meeting on the sale of the airport goes October 6th.
