Red scarves are hung all throughout Goderich today to mark World AIDS Day.

The project is coordinated by Regional HIV/AIDS Connection out of London, who get knit scarves donated from individuals and community groups.

The scarves resemble the red ribbon for AIDs awareness and support, something executive director Brian Lester says the HIV community still needs.

“While there has been great progress, 650,000 people died of AIDS related illnesses in 2021,” he says. “We still, in the present day, because of HIV stigma, we meet people who have developed symptoms of AIDS because they’ve been reluctant to access treatment because of stigma.”

Regional HIV/AIDS Connection will be holding a virtual vigil tonight at 7 p.m. on their Facebook page.
