Grandparent Scammers Arrested

Grey Bruce OPP have arrested two people in connection to an attempted grandparent scam in Chatsworth.

On June 24th, a 95 year old received a call from a man claiming to be her grandson in distress followed by another man posing as a lawyer.

The suspects tried to convince the senior to send money for legal fees however a family member quickly identified the scam and contacted police before any money could be lost.

On June 26th, the same victim got a call claiming to be her son needing $58,000 for legal fees after a car accident.

Thanks to a family member, officers responded to the scene and arrested both suspects.

A 28 year old Shelburne has been charged with Fraud Over $5000 and Disguise with Intent.

A 24 year old also of Shelburne has been charged with Fraud Over $5000.

Both will appear in court next month.
