Grey Bruce OPP are asking residents to stay alert for scams after a con artist almost made away with $10,000 from a Southgate Township resident on Monday.
The scammer who posed as a grandchild said they were involved in a crash and was arrested, needing a payment of $9450.
This was one of three attempts of the grandparent scam used with none of the attempts resulting in any financial loss.
The grandparent or emergency scam has become common locally and continues to be used as it’s been successful in the past.
OPP say if something sounds too good to be true, it likely is, to never give remote access to a computer over the phone and gift cards are a red flag for a form of payment.
