The Grey Bruce OPP advised residents that in efforts to streamline the process in obtaining a criminal background check they have switched to an online application process.
The move changes the need to attend a detachment or call can now download the necessary forms from the OPP website at opp.ca. The forms are under the Popular category under the search bar.
The acceptable forms of identification are listed on this page. The OPP advises that Health Cards and SIN numbers are not acceptable as ID. Both sides of ID must be scanned.
All applicants apply for a volunteer position or requiring a vulnerable sectors check will need to provide an accompanying letter with their 2 pieces of ID.
If background check is for a paid position there is a $41 fee that must be paid in cash with exact change when you go to pick up your record check.
The criteria for the accompanying letter include that it’s dated on an organization or employers letterhead, must name you as the applicant as well as the position being applied for, must identify if it’s volunteer or paid, must describe your duties and why explicitly the vulnerable sector check is required and must be signed by a manager or supervisor who is responsible for requesting the vulnerable sectors check.
Once the forms are completed you need to scan them into PDF format, along with both sides of your two pieces of acceptable ID and agency letter (for vulnerable sectors checks) and emailed to OPP.Grey.Bruce@opp.ca.
They say to allow for 1 to 2 business days for a reply to your email submission.
Once notified that the record check is complete the person will be notified to pick up the documents at one of the two detachments; either Wiarton or Chatsworth.
Both are open 9 am until 3 pm.
