Hepworth Area loses Award-Winning Educator with passing of Dave Garinger

The Hepworth area lost a long serving, and award-winning teacher recently with the passing of Dave Garinger on February 27th, 2022.

Garinger taught for twenty years at Amabel-Hepworth Public School and then Amabel-Sauble Community School. He finished there as Lead Teacher after the 2000-01 school year.

During his teaching career he volunteer coached many school teams, lead fundraising efforts for the annual Grade Eight trip to Ottawa and lead or assisted with many other extra-curricular initiatives including School Musicals, Science Fairs and Grade Eight Gradualtions.

Dave was also a dedicated community volunteer in both local and provincial sports, with an eventual focus on minor sports.

In 2001 he started a 20 year run as the WOAA Minor Hockey Chairman as well as the OMHA Regional Executive Member for the WOAA area.

Dave received many accolades and awards throughout his volunteering and teaching careers. Some of the highlights include the Inaugral Owen Sound SUm Times Teacher Award for Classroom Excellence in 2001, the WOAA Community Sports Builder Award in 2017 and he was named a Life Member of the WOAA in 2021.

Dave is survived by his wife Bev, and sons Edward and Joseph and their extended families.
