Huron East resident out nearly $18,000 after Cryptocurrency Scam in late August

They initially invested $7,500 and then a further $10,000 with a promise of a return. Once transferred fraudster ceased all communication with the victim.

The Huron County OPP is investigating a recent fraud in Huron East that has resulted in a loss of nearly $18,000 by the victim.

On September 5th police were contacted by the victim who reported losing money in an internet investment scam in late August. They explained that they were referred to a cryptocurrency investment website by a friend.

They initially invested $7,500 and were promised a certain profit on their investment.

They then invested an additional $10,000. The money thought to be invested was taken by the fraudster and they ceased all communication with the victim.

Police urge to never give out personal information, and to never accept friend requests from people you don’t know. They also urge to never invest money in platforms provided by people you don’t know.
