Huron OPP locate Attempted Shoplifting Suspect east of Blyth Feb. 25th

Incident which started at store on Huron Road in Goderich was successfully ended via a tire deflation device just east of Blyth.

Huron County OPP arrested a suspect near Blyth in an attempted theft in Goderich.

The incident took place on February 25th at a business on Huron Road.  Police received a calla round 8pm by a store manager to report the attempted theft of around $4,000 worth of goods.

The suspect was confronted by an observant citizen and fled empty handed in their vehicle towards Goderich.

OPP patrolling for the suspect and located them north of town.

Their vehicle was followed from a safe distance by police and a tire deflation device was deployed just west of Blyth.

Once their vehicle was disabled the suspect fled on foot.

With the help of the K-9 unit, Emergency Response Team, and a local resident, the suspect was located just east of Blyth and taken to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for processing.

A 47-year-old male of Waterloo was charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000 – Shoplifting
  • Flight From Peace Officer
  • Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

They were held in custody for a bail hearing.
