Huron Perth Public Health has received confirmation of the first case of flu in a resident.

The resident was under the age of 5 and the results mean the flu is circulation in Huron Perth.

Dr. Mirriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth says the flu can be a serious illness that can lead to hospitalization, especially among younger children and older adults.

She encourages all residents aged six months and older to get their flu shot this fall.

She also recommends to stay home when you are sick, wash your hands often, cover your mouth when you cough & sneeze, and disinfect touch surfaces.

Free flu shots for the general public will be available October 30th at participating doctor & nurse practitioner offices, pharmacies and public health unit clinics.
