Saugeen Shores council is hoping this is finally the year they get a pedestrian bridge approved for the Rail Trail to cross Hwy 21.
The Saugeen Rail Association mentioned the long-standing safety concerns they’ve had where the trail crosses the highway near Hi-Berry Farm in a presentation to council on Monday.
Councillor Cheryl Grace, who was at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference in Toronto at the time, said they were working on a long-term solution.
“We had a delegation with the Ministry of Transportation to talk specifically about the Rail Trail crossing,” she said. “We don’t have any results from that, but I thought it was a very positive meeting. They are quite aware of the issue and we talked about how things have changed in the last five years since they did an assessment of the crossing in 2017… We’re crossing our fingers that they’ll be coming back with some good news about making some real changes in policy that will make that safer.”
The Municipality has been pushing for a bridge at that location for over a decade.
