The cooler weather last weekend was perfect for firefights participating in the 2023 FireFit Championships in Saugeen Shores.

The Lake Huron Regional event took place on August 26th & 27th and featured a series of competitions based on fire fighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations.

Stations 11 & 12 of the Kincardine Fire & Emergency Services were ready to complete. They entered a hybrid relay team and had members compete in the individual categories.

They included FireFit Relay of 3 to 5 person teams, FireFit Tec2 which is a 2 person technical relay, FireFit Individual and FireFit Teams of 3 to 5 people.

Kincardine Fire’s Community Emergency Management Coordinator & Fire Prevention Officer Shane Watson says their members were excited to participate in the event and they really gave it their all.

Greg Simmons came home with a silver from the men’s 45 and over individual competition on Saturday.

KFES’s team of Colleen Jacques, Greg Simmons, Drew Dudgeon, Dave Palmer and Shane Watson ran three rounds of the hybrid relay and were able to beat teams from Minto and Clearview.

They were eventually eliminated by the number 1 ranked team from Brampton.

The team is waiting for their overall ranking to see if they’ll compete at the upcoming national FireFit Competition in Sarnia on September 17th.

Another event the department is heading to, if they aren’t heading to Sarnia, is the 911 Stairclimb event that is being hosted by Chatsworth at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound on September 17th as well.
