Members of the Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services and the South Bruce OPP were recognized with Letters of Exemplary Performance of Duty last week.

The honour was for “an exemplary display of a coordinated effort” during a 2020 incident at the marina, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of life of two elderly visitors.

Kincardine fire chief Brad Lemaich says he was proud of the sense of teamwork that was demonstrated during the attempted rescue, from all agencies, including paramedics, police, tow operators and fire crews.

Emergency personnel who were recognized at the presentation ceremony included: Deputy Chief Matt Cottrill; Captain Ryan Deer; Acting Captains Kyle Jenkins, Shane Watson, and Dylan Palmateer; and firefighters Grant Robinson, Frank Merkt, Dale Small, Matt Mahood, and Scott McAllister.
