The Municipality of Kincardine and the Town of Saugeen Shores are celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day today.

To acknowledge this day both Municipalities will be flying the “Every Child Matters” flag at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine and the Municipal Office in Port Elgin to demonstrate the commitment to reconciliation and to bring awareness of the impact of the residential school system.

In the release they say that it is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis Peoples.

Canada chose June 21st as National Indigenous Peoples Day because of its cultural significant of the summer solstice for Indigenous Peoples.
