The Municipality of Kincardine heard from its Chief Administrative Officer Jillene Bellchamber-Glazier at Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting to discuss a potential lead generation event the Municipality could attend in France.
Bruce County invited Kincardine’s Economic Development Officer after receiving funding from the Economic Developers Association of Canada for a booth at the MIPIM event.
Economic Development Manager at Bruce County Jeff Loney explained what the event is all about.
“MIPIM is the world’s largest real estate event. The event is held in 2 locations once a year; both in New York City and Cannes, France. It is where 30,000 real estate developers, investors and end users are coming to look for their next projects.”
Loney advised that Bruce County would be the only funded community to go.
He adds there is usually only about a dozen that go from Canada. He spoke to why Bruce County & Kincardine are being asked to attend.
“Bruce County has demonstrated a great value proposition for those that are there. Kincardine is part of that value proposition. This year’s conference focuses on net zero. Our part in the Clean Energy Frontier, and with Kincardine being the host community of OPG, Bruce Power really pushes that value proposition forward. Investors, especially across the EU, are looking for places where energy security is good.”
The estimated cost for Kincardine to participate in MIPIM is $3,000 to $4,000.
The existing budget for these types of economic development costs was already estimated at $30,000 for 2023.
The motion to support participation in MIPIM was carried.
