Citing issues with the municipality, the Kincardine Women’s Triathlon announced they will be asking neighbouring communities to hold this summer’s race.

In a release, the organizing committee said they have an end of February deadline to find a host municipality, or there won’t be enough time to plan for the 2023 event.

The triathlon says the need to move came after the municipality denied their request to close off Huron Terrace for the three-hour race. The road is expected to have increased traffic this summer due to the Queen Street reconstruction project.

Usually run in July, executives decided to move this year’s race to August in hopes of Lake Huron being warm enough to swim in.

The triathlon has been run since 2000, raising more than $100,000 for local organizations.
