Phase 2 of the Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams has wrapped up, raising over $1.7 million in support of new youth diamonds.

Rob Stanley Co-Chair of the Fundraising Team presented their final fundraising update to council, saying they well exceeded their goal of raising $1 million. With the extra $700,000 Stanley says the town can build new amenities for the ‘world-class facility.'”

Council had originally authorized the committee to raise the million and committed to matching those funds with an additional $1.25 million.

“Congratulations on $1.7 million raised. I haven’t been around for the entire history of the Town of Saugeen Shores, but I have to believe that’s the largest dollar amount ever raised for a rec facility in the town,” sais Mayor Luke Charbonneau.

“As the deputy mayor said, it’s going to make it a facility that’s the envy of southwest Ontario.”

The committee says its fundraising efforts have ended, but they expect to announce a few more donations by the end of the month.
