United Way Grey Bruce has released their latest calculation for a living wage for the region, and the number has risen to over $20/hour.

The living wage for Grey Bruce in 2022 was found to be $20.70 an hour, up 12.5% from the last time a study was done in 2019.

A living wage is what a worker needs to earn at 40 hours per week, in order to make ends meet. Locally, the figure was calculated across three different demographic profiles, a single person ($19.12/hour), a single parent with two children ($24.74/hour) and two parents with two children ($21.05/hour for both).

The study says that housing was the most significant cost for people, noting that data was collected in the summer prior to recent inflationary issues with food and other consumables.

The budget also does not include savings, debt repayments, or costs associated with home-ownership and caretaking for family members or pets.
