With another CUPE worker strike slated for next week if an agreement with the provincial government can’t be reached, local school boards are beginning to prepare for how to cope without support staff.

The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board sent an update to parents and guardians alerting them that remote learning will begin on Monday, Nov. 21 if the strike moves ahead. Chromebooks will be distributed to students this week in anticipation of the move.

There has been no update issued from the Bruce-Grey Catholic School board yet. During the two days of job action earlier this month, they were forced to close school on the first day before moving to remote learning on the second.

CUPE represents just maintanence and custodial staff in the Bluewater District School board, so they were able to remain open for the two days of strikes, but suggested if it went on much longer, they too would’ve shifted to remote learning.

The Avon Maitland District School board has no workers represented by CUPE, so classes should continue as normal.
