Maitland Conservation Issues Flood Outlook

Maitland Conservation is issuing a flood outlook given the changing weather conditions over the last week.

Milder temperatures have moved into the region and with it, snow melt and increased levels in the watershed.

A snow survey on Tuesday found about 90-120mm of snow water however it is expected in time that weather will go back above freezing and with it, significant snowmelt is not expected at this time.

The primary flood concern over the next several days is river ice breakup and ice jam formation, rather than melt-driven flooding.

Forecasted precipitation, even with limited melt, may be sufficient to increase river flows and water levels enough to initiate ice breakup.
