Huron County OPP says a senior from South Bruce is feeling a bit exhausted and quite fortunate after he was rescued early morning by police out of Saratoga Swamp.
Just before 11pm last night Police received a 9111 call from a male voice with all that was communicated was the word “Lost”.
Call takers immediately tried calling back with no answer. An emergency release of phone subscriber information provided police with a possible location the call originated from.
The search commenced shortly after 12:30 am with officers locating the caller’s vehicle unoccupied at the entrance to Saratoga Swamp off Hawkins Road.
West Region OPP Emergency Response Team officers and Canine attended the scene and a search commenced. Shortly after 3am offers were able to establish voice contact with the man.
It wasn’t until after 4:30am before the man was located by police, sitting on a log, well-under dressed and under prepared for a long night in the bush.
ERT members returned from the swamp shortly after 6:15am with the lost man.
Police learned that the 70 year old man with mobility issues, came out to the swamp the previous day around noon looking for deer antlers and later in the day became turned around and unable to find his way out of the swamp.
Police say fortunately this incident had a successful and happy ending. They advise that sometimes the situations don’t alway sturn out this way.
