Huron-Perth Public Health is reminding residents to protect themselves against West Nile Virus after a mosquito trap collected in Stratford and southern Huron County tested positive for the virus.

This is the first positive findings of West Nile Virus for the season across Huron and Perth counties.

Dale Lyttle, Senior Public Heath Inspector says it isn’t surprising to find positive mosquito pools in the month of August with people at the greatest risk of contracting West Nile virus in late summer.

Public health says to use insect repellent, cover up in light colored clothes, long sleeves and pants and take extra protection between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are the most active.
