A notice regarding unlicensed taxi drivers in Kincardine prompted online backlash about local transportation services, but the municipality says they’re not blocking companies like Lyft and Uber from coming here… those services just aren’t interested.

The municipality has never received a business or taxi licence application from a ride sharing company.

Jennifer White, Deputy Clerk, says ride sharing will be taken into consideration when they revisit the Taxi Licence By-law in the near future, but for now, apps don’t appear interested in the market.

In Kincardine, it costs $114 to licence your own vehicle for taxi services for two years or $37 to drive cab for someone else. There is no limit on how many taxi licences can be disributed by the municipality.

There are currently 14 taxi licences issued between Fred’s Cabs and TJ’s Taxi.
