While a vote on the proposed Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s DGR is South Bruce isn’t taking place until the fall, South Bruce council has approved a hosting agreement.

The document outlines what will happen should South Bruce vote in favour of the DGR to store Canada’s nuclear waste but also how exit the process if its not a willing host or not selected.

Throughout the process, Council has focused on ensuring the Project would meet our community’s shared principles,” said Mayor Goetz. “This agreement represents our best efforts to do that. It will help people better understand what the Project could mean for South Bruce and help them make an informed decision in the referendum.”

If South Bruce agrees to be the host after the vote the steps will have a review by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

The agreement also has an outline if South Bruce will not be willing host for the project or if its willing but not selected.
