Ontario Expanding Mobile Crisis Response Teams in 28 Communities

Investment will enable police to add mental health and addiction crisis workers to existing Mobile Crisis Response Teams and help ensure they are available when needed.

The Provincial Government announced today that in efforts to improve public safety and support people in crisis they are investing more than $4 million dollars over two years to expand Mobile Crisis Response Teams.

Police Services in 28 communities will receive grant funding to increase their capacity to respond to calls from individuals experiences a mental health or addition crisis.

The investment will enable police to add mental health and addiction crisis workers to existing Mobile Crisis Response Teams and help ensure they are available when needed.

All Municipal and First Nations police services, as well as the OPP were eligible to apply for the funding.

The maximum funding for each project was $120,000 per fiscal year. Additional funding may also be granted pending consideration for such things as geography and local service system features that impact service delivery costs.
