The Province is seeking the public’s input on ways to address and reduce harmful and inappropriate use of Notices of Security Interest against unsuspecting consumers.

A NOSI is a notice that can be registered on the title of a property such as an HVAC unit.

In some cases, the homeowner is not aware they have been registered and businesses have charged them exorbitant fees to remove them.

Input is being sought to help develop a comprehensive approach to address the issue that will protect vulnerable consumers & seniors.

The consultation is open until December 1st and explores various topics including requirements to notify when NOSI’s are registered, the types of goods and fixtures that can be registered and restrictions on duration.
