The Provincial government announced today that they will start administering 3rd doses of Covid-19 vaccine to an additional 2.8 million eligible people.

The newly eligible include health-care workers and those Ontarians 70 years and older and Indigenous residents. The eligibility also includes those that received 2 doses of AstraZeneca or other viral vector adenovirus varieties. It must have been 6 months since a person received their second dose.

The Province announced that as of today 161,000 or 65% of the eligible group had already received their third dose.

The eligible group now includes an estimated 1.7 million people over the age of 70, a quarter million people working in healthcare, long term care or congregate settings and nearly a quarter million Indigenous Ontarians.

Boosters for the general public are expected sometime in early 2022.

3rd shots of Covid-19 vaccine will not be mandatory at this time and the definition of “Fully Vaccinated” at 2 doses isn’t expected to be modified.
