With summer here and tourism season in full swing, the South Bruce OPP are reminding pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike to be extra cautious when crossing the road. Constable Kevin Martin stopped by the studio to offer these tips to pedestrians:

  • Only cross streets at designated crosswalks. Stepping out from behind parked cars can catch drivers off guard.
  • Wear high-visibility clothing when you’re walking in the early morning or late at night.
  • School may be on break, but safety is a year-round concern, so parents should remind their kids how to cross the street safely as we head into summer.
  • Regardless of who is fault, pedestrians will always come out worst in a collision with a vehicle, so be extra cautious.

As for drivers, Martin says they should always remember to yield at pedestrian crosswalks, stay off your phone and don’t run red lights or you could face serious fines.
