With this week being National School Bus Safety Week, the OPP is reminding all drivers about school bus safety.
Each day 20,000 school buses transport over 833,000 students across the province to and from school.
When driving on roadways without medians drivers in both directions must stop when its upper red light is flashing or arm activated, when approaching it from the front stop a safe distance away to let children get on and off the bus and cross the road as well as not moving forward until the red lights have stopped flashing and stop arm is no longer activated or bus begins to move.
The maximum fine for not stopping is $2,000 on the first offence and 6 demerit points.
It jumps to $4,000 and 6 points on subsequent offences.
