OPP, Police Chiefs & Canadian Banker Association share info on Seniors Emergency Scam

From January to June the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre reported a staggering $9.2 million dollars in victim losses associated with the scam.

The Ontario Provincial Police, Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and the Canadian Banker Association partnered to share knowledge about the alarming rise in the Emergency Grandparent Scam which impacts the most vulnerable with the community.

From January to June the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre reported a staggering $9.2 million dollars in victim losses associated with the scam.

With just over 4 months remaining in the year, it is anticipated the losses will exceed those of last year which was $9.4 million.

It is estimated only 5-10% of victims report being scammed and seniors lose on average 33 percent more than other demographics.
