OPP to start moving record checks online next week

People requiring criminal background checks will soon have to go online.

The Ontario Provincial Police are moving their record checks online starting next Monday.

Requests for criminal, judicial matters, vulnerable, and non-parent custody checks can be made through the online portal.

There will be no change in fees which are processed online securely. ($41 for record checks, $90 for fingerprint checks, volunteer checks are free)

In a news release, OPP Deputy Commissioner Chris Harkins says they complete around 140,000 police record checks a year.

He says by moving record checks online, it will allow the OPP to effectively and efficiently meets the needs of the community.
