As winter begins to set in, OPP are reminding the public to be cautious near bodies of water.
Police say even if it looks to appear lakes and rivers are frozen, they say no ice is safe ice.
Early season ice is considered very thin and unpredictable and while some people enjoy snowmobiling motorized recreational vehicles on frozen lakes, the current ice conditions greatly increase the risk of breaking through the ice and experiencing cold water immersion which can be life threatening in minutes.
OPP say to always remain on designated trails, avoid unfamiliar areas and check the weather and trail conditions before leaving.
