Grey-Bruce OPP are warning residents of more common scams across the area during Fraud Prevention Month, Among them includes the Cottage Rental Scam which affects residents in the heart of cottage country.
Scammers will often ask for a deposit or the rental fee in full from online booking to a specific location in advance of the rental and when the renter shows up to the site the cottage either doesn’t exist or the address was provide or that the house was never available to rent.
Best tips to avoid this scam include calling and speaking to someone directly, ask to see the property ahead of time and ask for references from previous renters.
