The Ontario Public Service Employees Union has set a 12:01am deadline on Friday, March 18th if the College Employer Council does not agree to Voluntary Binding Interest Arbitration.

The move would see some 16,000 faculty at Ontario’s 24 pulbic colleges head to the picket lines.

The open letter with the demand was sent to College Presidents today, saying to do what’s right and ensure students are protected and the school year is protected.

Faculty rejected a final offer that the CEC tried to get approved last month.

Faculty have been working to rule since December.

Binding arbitration would see the involved parties asking a neutral arbitrator to resolve a bargaining dispute where both provide proposals, which in effect creates a compromise between the two.

The CEC is requesting a different type where an arbitrator must choose between the two proposals.
