The Owen Sound Police are searching for a driver who fled a R.I.D.E. checkpoint last night shortly after midnight.

Officers were conducting the spot check in the 800 block of 10th Street West when a vehicle entered the checkpoint from the west and the male driver spoke with an officer.

When they directed the driver to pull over for further investigation the male accelerated causing the vehicle to fishtail then sped eastbound through a red light at 8th Avenue East.

They were not pursued due to public safety concerns.

Police are interested in speaking to the owner of a mid-2000’s Jeep Liberty.

It is distinctive as it has a black body with the driver’s side passenger door silver. The Jeep also had a significant dent in the left rear bumper.

Anyone with info is asked to contact the Owen Sound Police or anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
