Huron County council has approved the 2026 budget and with it, a series of programming either to be canceled or greatly scaled back.
This budget proved its challenges for council trying to maintain a 4.55% tax levy increase and support long term financial sustainability.
This levy number has also meant the County will no longer be able to participate in programing such as the Counties EV Charger Network, Healthy Lake Huron Steering Committee, Huron Stewardship Council and County Climate Action Plan.
Huron County Warden Jaime Heffer says while the tough choices made in the budget will impact some County services, the 2026 budget reflects a responsible, forward-looking approach that will strengthen the County of Huron’s ability to serve our community well into the future.
Further programming will either be canceled or significantly scaled back and includes;
- Huron Multicultural Festival
- Main Street Arts Festival
- artLAB programming
- Jane’s Walks
- National Indigenous Peoples Day programming
- Huron County Museum Summer Day Camps
- Cultural Summit
- Limited participation in Treaty Tour to commemorate 200th anniversary of Huron Tract
