Huron Perth Public Health announced today that it has received confirmation of several cases of influenza A cases in children under the age of 5 in its region.

HPPH says this is a noteworthy development because testing for the flu is very limited so they say they don’t typically see this number of lab-confirmed cases in children so young.

Influenza season started several weeks earlier than usual says the Health Unit, as it doesn’t typically begin until late November.

HPPH is recommending everyone get the influenza vaccine annually as each year it is updated to provide protection against the strains likely to circulate.

They say to get it as soon as possible as it takes two weeks to take effect.

HPPH says the best places to get your flu shot include:

  • Primary Care Providers
  • Pharmacies
  • Huron Perth Public Health clinic
    • Mon. Nov. 14th at HPPH Clinton office 3-6pm
    • Mon. Nov. 21st at HPPH Stratford West Gore site 3-6pm
    • An appointment is needed.
