Public Health Issues Overdose Alert

Grey Bruce Public Health has issued an opioid alert after a series of drug overdoses over a 24 hour period.

The overdoses occurred between March 4th and 5th in the Owen Sound area with two overdoses involving one person in their 30’s and another in their 40’s were both fatal.

One of the fatal overdoses took place in Port Elgin.

Fentanyl the highly potent opioid is believed to be the substance responsible for the overdoses.

Public health is advising people who use drugs are at a significant risk of overdose due to the local street drug supply containing the high toxic drug fentanyl or fentanyl analogues.
