As the heat wave is expected to temper off after today and a recent storm, Bruce County is reminding the public to be prepared when thunderstorms roll in over the summer.
Lightning strikes remain as the leading cause of weather related deaths in Canada with most strikes occurring in open areas or under trees.
Thunderstorms can also develop into tornadoes with the afternoon and evening being the most common in June and July.
The county says the safest place during a storm is indoors, away from windows.
When you hear thunder, lightning is within striking distance, don’t run water as lightning can travel through plumbing and don’t be a stormchaser.
