A romance scam has costed a Hanover resident over $117,000.

Hanover Police are investigating the crime after the victim said they had lost the amount since 2021.

Police Chief Christopher Knoll says these smooth talking keyboard princes or princesses will tug at your heat strings, eventually getting you to send wire transfers, cash and gift cards in exchange for nothing but empty promises and false hopes.

Police say often these profiles will often ask for money and lure you off dating sites and claim to need the money for emergencies or travel and a promise to visit but never do.
