Saturday, August 5th marks Food Day Canada.
It is the day that engages & inspires everyone to shop, cook and dine Canadian.
It was started by the late Anita Stewart of Wellington County back in 2003.
She had the vision for a national celebration of food and farming in response to a national crisis the devasted beef farmers at the time.
Senator Rob Black introduced an initiative back in November 2021 to make the day official across Canada.
It was passed in May 2022 with unanimous support.
This year’s Food Day Canada marks the 20th anniversary of Anita’s first Food Day event.
