To help increase the supply of affordable housing in Saugeen Shores, municipal council in July approved a development charges bylaw whereby growth pays for growth.
At the same time, the bylaw supports more housing types within the community.
Under the bylaw, developers of new rental housing will have five years to pay these development charges.
In addition, rental housing designed to be universally accessible, contain three-bedroom apartments, or is near the downtown will be exempt from paying the charges.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau stresses the bylaw “is just one of the tools we are using to increase the supply of housing.”
