Saugeen Shores Council offers condolences on death of Chief Vernon Roote

They say his dedication to his community and the Anishinaabeg is unquestionable, not only because of his long service to the Saugeen First Nation Council, but also for his advocacy on behalf of Indigenous peoples.

The Town of Saugeen Shores Council issued a statement on the passing of former Chief Vernon Roote on Friday.

In it they say his dedication to his community and the Anishinaabeg is unquestionable, not only because of his long service to the Saugeen First Nation Council, but also for his advocacy on behalf of Indigenous peoples.

They add that he kept his people’s traditions and language alive by his teachings and by his actions.

They close by offering their deepest sympathies to the Roote family and the Saugeen First Nation for their loss.
