Saugeen Shores receives report on Possible Sale or Development of Surplus Lands

The purpose of the move would be to either sell lands and use the funds to support the affordable housing reserve or to partner with a developer on building affordable housing.

The Town of Saugeen Shores Council received an information report at its December 19th meeting on an update on Surplus Town Lands for possible use or support of attainable housing.

In the report the Supervisor of Development Services Jay Pausner outlined the work that would be required on the four possible properties for them to be ready for sale or development.

Pausner says that the 3 smaller parcels would likely be sold if council decides to proceed that way.

The fourth, a larger parcel surrounding the YMCA daycare would likely mean the Town finding a developer with suitable qualifications.

“Part of the qualifications that we think we will look for is somebody that has a track record and knows how to do these projects.”

Pausner adds familiarity with zoning will be key.

“The lands around the Y daycare aren’t currently zoned for development. They have be re-zoned and  this process invites public comment and we want to make sure the development fits into the town.”

The timeline outlined in the report would see consultative work on the lands take until April of this year before any possible sale or steps forward.
