Saugeen Shores is turning to the public to get their thoughts on the future of affordable housing in the area.

The town has kicked off a pre-approved housing design program which has been received some funding from the federal Housing Accelerator Fund and Bruce Power SEED Funding.

Currently public input is being accepted with the survey ending soon on Friday. Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau says the need to address housing is great.

“Just like everywhere we have a big need for housing in our community, we have a supply shortage we just don’t have enough housing for the people who are looking for it. We’ve been building a lot of housing in Saugeen Shores in the last couple of years, in fact we’ve double the amount of multi-family residential units in the last 2 years but it’s not enough we have to do a whole bunch more.” said Charbonneau.

Pre-approved housing designs are the subject of the survey which includes a list of floor plans and other building details.
