Scams continue to be big business as police launch Fraud Prevention Month

business We are into first week of Fraud Prevention Month.

South Bruce OPP are once again taking part in the annual national initiative to raise awareness about fraud.

Inspector Krista Miller says during the first three weeks of February, there have been 20 reported cases of fraud and adds there could be more.

 

 

Miller says $40,000 was lost in an online investment scam during that time frame and there has been a 300 percent increase in those type of scams.

She says according to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, over $380 Million was lost due to fraud in 2021.

Miller says Constable Kevin Martin even got an unsolicited message on his phone that threatened arrest if a payment was not received…
