The SIU has released its findings in the case of the West Grey Police Officer in the Death of a Man after a Police Pursuit in Grey County.

In the findings Director of the SIU, Joseph Maertino, says they found no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer committed a criminal offence in the death of a 40 year old man, and the serious injuries suffered by his 14 year old daughter.

The incident occurred on November 7th when the officer was attempting to stop the driver of a stolen pick up truck who was driving erratically and at speeds of up to 150 km/h.

Police deployed a spike strip ahead of Grey County Road 4 and Camp Oliver Road.

The truck thief ran the stick, continued a distance and struck a car travelling the other way killing the driver and seriously injuring his daughter.

The Director was unable to conclude that the use of the spike strip was unreasonable in the circumstances.
