The three-year Smart Beach pilot project at Station Beach in Kincardine says with data collected during a successful first summer recorded wave swells last month were up to 2.3 meters in height.

They say the project is already demonstrating the changeable and dangerous nature of Lake Huron.

The pilot project is administered by the Municipal Innovation Council, and it is aimed at developing a real-time warning system for beachgoers.

Next year the team will test a communication tool with real-time info on swimming conditions to warn people where the hazards are.

They also aim to build on Smart Beach awareness & education and collect more data to strength the model.
