The Town of Saugeen Shores is looking to hear from the public to help make the beaches safer.

The Smart Beach Project has launched with the town alongside Georgian College and the University of Waterloo to help develop a beach safety app tailored to the needs of beachgoers in the area.

Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau says with some hope what they’ll be able to build can be something used more than just within town and the local waters.

“Because it’s a research project the intent really is to build something here that we might see deployed everywhere. Particularly on Lake Huron where we have unique water conditions and wave conditions.’ said Charbonneau.

Data collected in the survey which is available online and is completely anonymous will be used for the beach safety app development.
