Hospitals in the South Bruce Grey Health Centre will be suspending all non-emergent and non-urgent surgeries and procedures.

President and CEO Michael Barrett said in an interview with the Shoreline Classics that they were developing a plan to ensure it is done in an organized fashion.

That plan was announced on Monday and will take effect this Wednesday.

Community Lab Collections is being reduced in Chesley (down to two days a week, Tuesday and Thursday), Durham (3 days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), and Walkerton (overall by 50 percent).

Bone Mineral Density Testing in Durham is being reduced while Screening Mammography at both Walkerton and Kincardine (as well as BMD in Kincardine) is being reduced by 20 percent.

Cardiorespiratory Testing in Kincardine and Durham is being reduced by 20 percent.

Outpatient physiotherapy in Kincardine and Walkerton is down to once a week.

And only high priority surgeries and procedures will be performed.

Patients will be contacted by the hospital to reschedule non-emergent and non-urgent surgeries and procedures.

The moves are being made in hopes of freeing up capacity of inpatient beds for both COVID and non-COVID patients at their four hospitals.
